Shaylyn Joy
Creativity is a way of being and to be human is to create.
To have that innate itch of building something out of nothing.
To add color in a sea of great emotion.
The goal is not to just make art.
It is to be in a state where creativity ebbs and flows like
water does through our daily lives.
My approach is like many artists,
waking up early to see the sun painted along the horizon and staying awake long enough to see the moon dissolve into the deep blue horizon and the stars peek through the blanket of air, begging you to make a wish.
Each is a moment of interest, waiting to be noticed and collected, building a treasure chest of golden plans for later.
I flip the coin to see what my next spare change brings me.
While I’ve put pen to paper longer than I can remember, I have had numerous collections, including rocks, Red Rose tea figurines, and tiny spoons.
All of these fall under the teeny tiny category that makes me want to live in a swamp and have a pet donkey.
Thus busted the damn open to whatever this
shit show is that goes on in my brain.
I make art, damn it.
After years of self-experimentation and failing miserably, I’ve found the subject matter and mediums that itch my brain.
My repertoire includes anything from primarily digital design, crochet, ceramic pieces, paintings, macrame, and up-cycling discarded objects from the side of the road.
